Research into 'Around the world in 80 days' & Storytelling

The World Book Day logo

The nautical - Steampunk style is synonymous with Jules Verne adventure novels. Cogs, machinery, Victoriana typefaces and dimmed colours are the identity of Steampunk.

An original book cover design for a collection of Jules Verne novels features gold embossing and bright hues. These might be giveaway style for this era that I could feature in my designs.

Victorian travel posters

Although I knew quite a lot about the typography I was to use for the Victoriana theme, I wanted to look at these Victorian travel posters for ideas about colours and shapes. I noticed that more often than not the prints are in black and white. Inkeeping with authenticity but still making the ephemera colourful, I thought that maybe I could have photographs in the background of the posters of the different places on the trip while the foreground remains black/ white.
